When I first believed in Christ in 1987, I had no idea about the “mysteries of God” as discussed by the Apostle Paul. Coming up Southern Baptist and later entrenched in the Bible Church movement through Bible College and Seminary, the idea of anything not explicitly explained in Scripture was taboo.
In the Orthodox Christian faith, I found a richness I never knew I was missing in what we call “the fullness of the faith.” For example, the idea of angels and demons was just that, a theological construct rooted in academia.
Folks, I experienced people who had demonic possession. I’ve been involved in an exorcism that initially rocked me to my core. Demons are real. Yet, to those of us in Christ they are powerless. You learn in those moments that we are truly partakers in Christ’s divine nature.
Conversely, angels are just as real. We’ve seen them in our home, protecting us, guarding us, and encouraging us. They are with us everywhere we go. The Apostle Paul even reminds us to be on our best behavior for we never know when an angel will manifest themself in our presence and we entertain them, if even for a few seconds.
We have an awesome responsibility as disciples of Christ. If we understood we are divine partakers in His nature, wouldn’t it, shouldn’t it, change everything???
